ARTIST
BIO
Vladimir Sierra's
current body of work is heavily influenced by Japanese
ukiyo-e prints from the 1800's and by Catalan Modernista mosaics, as
found predominantly in the city of Barcelona. With a background in
aerospace engineering and traditional animation, Vladimir seeks to
strike a balance between the scientific and the poetic through simple
compositions that are held together by intricately arranged atomic
structures. Vladimir's digital creations (ukiyotiles) come to life
through an algorithm he developed that
interprets his drawings and renders them as organically-grown mosaics.
His works on traditional media retain a connection with Japanese
traditional styles, but are of a much more playful nature. Born in
Colombia, South America, Vladimir currently resides in the city of Los
Angeles.
