ARTIST BIO "The sword is
the soul. Study the soul to know the sword. Evil mind, evil sword." With his paint brush as the sharpest of swords, Ichae Ackso slices through the surface of the blank canvas to create elegant compositions of line and space. His work reveals a unique amalgamation of Edo-era Japanese art, Gothic architecture and manuscript illuminations, Op Art, Abstract Expressionism, and Graffiti/graffiti removal. The end result is a challenge to the definitions of line and form. Ichae Ackso’s experience as an improvisational musician is evident in his work’s Dionysian sense of force and balance. One can almost see the grid-shifted percussion of his music mirrored in the sharp black lines of his paintings; the atonal vibrations mirrored in the golden negative spaces. Ichae is currently a resident artist at the Hive Gallery and Studios in Los Angeles. His musical compositions are available through his self released label Avant Anticore. They include the following aliases: Mafv Gamma, Big Epoch, and Period Two. He is also half of White Trash Firecracker. When not in the studio, he can be found photographing crushed vehicles at various junkyards or studying the textures in city streets. |
